Cadia Mine

In the central west of New South Wales is Cadia, home to one of Australia’s largest gold mines, operated by Newcrest and open for a decade.  The NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) threatened to suspend the mine’s operating permit after it found its main vent was emitting “an unacceptable level of dust”.  Shortly after this story was published the New South Wales Government launched an inquiry into the mine.
